Williamsburg, VA. (June 30, 2010) Snyder’s of Hanover® and Busch Gardens® in Williamsburg, Va., are teaming up again for the second annual Pretzel Coaster Build-Off Contest. Five finalists ranging in age from 12 to 45 were selected to compete in a head-to-head coaster build-off competition at Busch Gardens on July 15. Their amazing pretzel coaster creations are featured on the Snyder’s of Hanover website at http://coastercontest.snydersofhanover.com/.
In the competition's second year, people around the country were invited to build a roller coaster model out of Snyder’s of Hanover pretzels. The finalists and their families will travel to Busch Gardens in Williamsburg for the final round of competition on July 15.
Last year’s winner, 22-year-old Gregory Stanton from Maryland, will return to defend his title. Stanton's replica of Apollo’s Chariot earned praise for his attention to detail, accuracy and overall presentation.
Using only pretzels, a glue gun and their creativity, the five finalists will compete against each other, the clock and last year’s winner during the in-park competition. They will build Busch Gardens’ newest coaster, Griffon, the world’s tallest and first floorless dive coaster. The contestants will be judged by a roller coaster engineer, an expert from Busch Gardens, a pretzel expert from Snyder’s of Hanover and a roller coaster fan from the American Coaster Enthusiasts club.
The grand-prize winner will receive a four-pack of two-year, 2-Park passes for Busch Gardens and Water Country USA, and a year’s supply of Snyder’s of Hanover pretzels. The estimated retail value of the grand prize is more than $1,200.
“Everyone at Snyder’s and Busch Gardens was extremely impressed with the success of last year’s event,” said Bob Gould, Snyder’s of Hanover marketing manager. “We are really looking forward to seeing the finalists compete head-to-head on July 15.”
