Contestants build roller coaster models out of pretzels and compete for grand prizes

HANOVER, Pa. (Mar., 2012) – For the fourth consecutive year, Snyder’s of Hanover pretzels and Busch Gardens of Williamsburg, Va. are mixing artistic engineering with America’s love of pretzels for their annual Pretzel Coaster Build-Off.

In a challenge of steady hands and strong pretzels, roller coaster enthusiasts and pretzel-lovers alike are invited to build a roller coaster model using Snyder’s of Hanover pretzels for a chance to win one of five prize packs for a two-day trip for a family of four to Busch Gardens to participate in the final build-off challenge on July 10.

Armed only with glue guns, an unlimited number of pretzels and a little imagination, individuals and families have from now through June 4, 2012 to create a pretzel coaster, snap a picture and submit their entry online at www.snydersofhanover.com. Four finalists, selected by Snyder’s of Hanover and Busch Gardens, along with one online Fan Favorite and the 2011 Pretzel Coaster Build-Off Champion, Jennifer Westcott, will compete against each other and the clock to build a replica of Verbolten, Busch Gardens’ new indoor/outdoor multi-launch roller coaster that debuts this spring.

“This contest not only encourages ingenuity around the roller coaster concept, it’s also an exciting activity that the whole family can get behind and have fun with,” said Bob Gould, Marketing Manager. “We’re thrilled to be partnering with the Busch Gardens team to bring this family-friendly opportunity to roller coaster enthusiasts and pretzel lovers of all ages.”

The winner of the July 10 build-off will receive a four pack of two-year, 2-Park passes for Busch Gardens Williamsburg and Water Country USA, as well as a year’s supply of Snyder’s of Hanover pretzels. The estimated retail value of the grand prize is more than $1,300.

 

“The engineering marvels created by contestants rivals that of our coasters. I can’t wait to see what these talented artistic engineers create this year,” said Larry Giles, Busch Gardens’ vice president of design and engineering who is overseeing construction of Verbolten.

 

The contest runs from now to June 4, 2012 and is open to anyone aged 8 years or older and a resident of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, District of Columbia, Virginia or North Carolina. All contests will be given an online coupon for $1 off any of the more than three-dozen varieties of Snyder’s of Hanover pretzels.
