Coconut Easter Chicks

Coconut Easter Chicks

Ingredients

  • 12 Snyder’s of Hanover Mini Pretzels
  • 12 prepared donut holes or cake pops
  • 1 can yellow cake frosting
  • 3 cups shredded sweetened coconut
  • 8 – 10 drops of yellow food dye
  • 24 mini chocolate chips
  • Orange fondant or orange icing

Directions

  1. Place the coconut in a zip lock bag and add 8 drops of yellow food coloring.  Seal the bag and shake until all of the food coloring is absorbed.  If you prefer a deeper yellow, add more drops of food coloring (2 at a time), shaking bag between additions, until the yellow color you wish is reached; spread dyed coconut in a plate and set aside.
  2. Place a teaspoon of yellow frosting on each Mini Pretzel; set aside. Push a toothpick through the top of the donut hole – this will be a temporary “handle”. Holding the donut hole by the toothpick spread your desired amount of frosting all over a donut hole; roll in dyed coconut, and place on the prepared Mini Pretzel.
  3. Once the frosting has dried enough to secure the chick to the pretzel, gently remove and discard the toothpick. Gently push in two mini chocolate chips for eyes.  For the beak, roll a small ball of orange fondant and shape into a triangle; push into frosting.
