Pretzel Scarecrow Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 box favorite cake mix
  • Snyder’s of Hanover Pretzel Sticks
  • Cake Mate Fondant Toppers, orange, green, purple, blue and white
  • 1 can favorite buttercream flavored cake frosting

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Following manufacturer’s directions on cake box, spray 2 8” cake pans with cooking spray; set aside.

  2. Prepare cake mix following directions on box and pour into prepared cake pans, making sure that the 2 pans are filled in equal amounts; bake cakes, again following directions on box. Once fully cooked, remove from oven and let cool completely and remove from pans.

  3. Invert cakes so that the bottoms are facing upward. Cut one of the cakes in the shape of a hat; secure to other cake with some frosting.
    Using the cake frosting, frost the round cake.

  4. Roll out the orange fondant to a 1/8” thickness and drape over the cut cake that forms the hat. Lightly press into place and cut any excess off – saving scrapes. To create ruffle, roll excess orange fondant into 2 strips, app. 2.5” long. Place over bottom edge of hat and onto the top of the frosted cake. Create ruffles by pulling up on the fondant. Create the hat bond using another color of fondant rolled 1/8” thick.
  5. For the eyes, roll the white fondant to 1/8” thickness and cut two triangles, roll a little bit of blue fondant and cut to small circles. Create a round nose, flower and patch following the same method. Place pieces accordingly. For the stitching, roll a little purple fondant into a thin rope, cut the length you wish and place on cake – using the photo as a guide.
  6. Gently push the Pretzel Sticks all around the face and under the bottom ruffle of the hat.
